Tom,
I was Capt. Travis Holeman's fishing
partner for a few of the IFA
tournaments in Texas and must say that
the boat is awesome. We have
done a lot of fishing together and I
must say that I have seen few if any
other boats that will do what your 17
ST model can do. There were
quite a few times that I would look
behind the boat and see nothing but
bare sand in our wake. All I
could do was shake my head, close my
eyes, and pray that we didn't stick
the boat. Well it never got
stuck, and we never lost time fishing
because we couldn't get to an area we
wanted to. The way he has the
boat set up, we also left no prop
scars, because the prop is above the
bottomline of the boat (when running
extremely shallow). An
incredible product at a very
attractive price. Keep up the
good work.

Dear Mr. Mitzlaff,
I want to thank you for letting me use a Mitzi 17 on my recent trip to the Marqueses Keys. I wanted to give you a short report of what we did and what I and the others (Capt. Rick DePaiva, Capt. Paul Hobby, and Capt Blake Matherly) thought of the boat, along with any suggestions.
I ran the boat to the Marquesas from Key West. It was windy and the seas were running about 3 feet. The Mitzi handled it extremely well except for one large wave that crashed over the bow, nearly swamping the boat. I believe it was operator error that allowed this to happen. That was the only time anything at all like that happened. The cockpit drained a little slow and could be improved by the addition of slightly larger scuppers. We used the boat to fish for permit, tarpon, and bonefish on the flats. It was nearly silent even in a chop, as quiet as any other boat I have ever been in. It poles as well as any 17 I have poled. Everyone was impressed by the boats fishability. We all thought the ride was good but could be improved a little with trim tabs.
We also used the boat to venture out for snapper, sharks, dolphin, and anything else that came along. It handled all these chores with ease, even when we ventured out to the blue water to search for dolphin. The boat is remarkably dry too.
In short, the Mitzi did everything I asked it to, and all the members of the crew on this trip were quite impressed by its performance. Everyone had suggestions for tweaking out the skiff; larger scuppers, built in fuel tank, pop-up bow light, fold away push pole hook, trim tabs. I now understand these items are available as options. I intend to put my
Maverick Mirage up for sale this week and want to talk to you about getting a Mitzi 17 for myself.
Most sincerely
Captain John Kumiski

Tom,
Travis
Holeman here.
"I
have to tell you that the 17 tunnel is
a freak and does some really scary
things in the proper hands. I
have successfully slid through 2
1/2" s of water with it and
jumped it up in shallower water than
my friend with a Hells bay 17 tunnel.
That was one of the best days
ever:::::::::::: the sheer joy of
slamming a friend with boat that is
20,000 cheaper and not much heaver
brought a smile to my face that is
only now fading months later.
The best part is my father, he was
with me and is a tall man nearing 320
lbs. Really surprised me that we
could spin up in 8" of water with
the bottom of the boat touching the
sea floor. As I have said before
your boats are doing some really
impressive things and I plan on
fishing from it for years. Your
hull is the best little boat I have
ever seen and probably will be for
some time. Keep on making the
mean little machines you are.
Real fisherman really appreciate a
boat that performs as good as the
supposed best and better than the rest-
Capt. Travis Holeman.

I am a licensed guide here in
Kansas and in the Florida Keys during
the summers. My Mitzi does exactly
what I wanted it to to, gets me into
shallow water for our Kansas Bonefish
(carp) and into the shallow salt for
real Bonefish.
I have even convince one of my
fishing friends here in Kansas to
purchase a Mitzi as well. He is
getting his Kansas guide license next
year.

Received from different people...
I am writing from the coast of North Carolina where I have finally been able to put my Mitzi 17 in the water (the weather has not been cooperative since I picked it up from Rick's in Jacksonville). I have put the first 6 hours on it this weekend and love it already. With trim tabs and the Yamaha 70 2-stroke, it jumps up on plane almost instantly. Our sounds, while beautiful, generally only have a couple of feet of water and the 17 handles them with ease. The boat is fast and smooth. It is just what I hoped.
This morning I took the boat down to my regular marina. It was early and the only person there was the owner. He is a straightforward guy in his 60's who has lived his whole life around the water. He has a low tolerance for BS. He was totally taken with the Mitzi. He couldn't stop looking at the boat. He said several times how much he liked it and how perfect it was for our back-country waters. I figure that is as good an endorsement as I could get up here. Thought you would like to know.
I
I have been boating since I was a kid
growing up in Ft. Lauderdale in the 60's. This
is a great boat, perhaps the best I have
owned. Thanks for that. Let me
know if I can ever help by showing the 17 to
other interested folks. "

I REALLY
HAVE ENJOYED THE BOAT AND HAVE ADDED SOME
ACCESSORIES TO THE BOAT TO IMPROVE THE
SHALLOW WATER PERFORMANCE. HERE IN
SOUTH TEXAS TOM, THE FISHING FLATS ARE
CONSIDERED BETWEEN 6 INCHES OF WATER TO A
FOOT. I ADDED A BOB'S ULTRA LIGHT
FLATS JACK THAT HAS HELPED TREMENDOUSLY IN
GETTING UP IN SHALLOW WATER. I AM NOW
ABLE TO GET UP ON PLANE IN APPROXIMATELY 7
INCHES OF WATER WHERE BEFORE THIS WAS NOT
POSSIBLE WITH THE CURRENT SET UP. I
HAVE HAD A LOT OF INQUIRES REGARDING YOUR
BOAT AND OF COURSE EVERYONE WANTS A
DEMONSTRATION OF ITS CAPABILITIES. I'M
HAVING A LOT OF FUN THE BOAT AND THE
MAJORITY OF MY CLIENTS SEEM TO LIKE IT.

DEAR MITZI SKIFFS,
I DON'T E-MAIL MANY, BUT FELT COMPELLED TO JOT YOU A NOTE! I GREW UP ON LAKE GEORGE,FL BASS FISHING. I FISHED LOCAL TOURNAMENTS THE LAST FIVE YEARS UNTIL A PROMOTION WITH MY WORK RELOCATED ME TO KEY LARGO A FEW MONTHS AGO. BEING AN AVID FISHERMAN THE WATERS OF THE FLORIDA KEYS WERE MORE THAN I COULD BEAR SO I SOLD MY 2000 21' TRITON BASS RIG AND STARTED THE QUEST FOR A SALTWATER RIG. I HAVE A FRIEND HERE, WITH A HEWES, WHO INTRODUCED ME TO THE FLATS AND I WAS ADDICTED! NOT KNOWING MY LENGTH OF TIME I WILL BE REQUIRED TO STAY IN THE KEYS I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND THE $20,000 PLUS FOR A FLATS RIG AND NEEDED A LIGHT ONE DUE TO MY RAMP ARRANGEMENTS I HAVE, SO I STARTED SHOPPING. I SPOKE WITH A GUY WHO HAD A MITZI 15' AND REALLY LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE RIG. MY FRIEND ON THE OTHER HAND WAS PUSHING ME IN THE HEWES DIRECTION. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I WAS SHOPPING AROUND AND CALLED JOEL'S MARINE IN FT. LAUDERDALE AND WAS PRICING BOATS. HE TELLS ME THAT HE IS A MITZI DEALER TOO. I DROVE UP AND HE HAS ONE NEW MITZI AND A MITZI THAT HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH WITH ONLY MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A NEW FRIEND IN KEY LARGO, WHO IS ALSO IN THE FIBERGLASS REPAIR BUSINESS, I DECIDED TO BUY THE MITZI THAT HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN THE CRASH, REPAIR AND JUST SEE IF FLATS FISHING WOULD BE MY BAG. MY FRIEND PATCHED THE BOAT UP ALL THE TIME TELLING ME HOW WELL THE THING IS BUILD. I PURCHASED A 40HP YAMAHA AND HAVE BEEN FISHING OUT OF IT FOR ABOUT FOUR WEEKS NOW. THIS BOAT IS GREAT! THE THING TAKES ROUGH WATER AS WELL AS MOST BASS RIGS AND POLES IN A TEASPOON OF WATER. MY FRIEND WITH THE HEWES WENT OUT WITH ME FOR TWO DAYS LAST WEEK. HE NOW WANTS A MITZI! HE COULDN'T BELIEVE THE BOAT! HE SAID HE CAN NOW FISH AREAS THAT HE NEVER DARED WITH HIS BOAT! HAVING A LOT OF FRESHWATER FISHING EXPERIENCE, AND JUST LEARNING THE FLATS INS AND OUTS, THERE IS NO DOUBT THIS IS THE BEST CHOICE IN A SHALLOW WATER BOAT! I THINK I MIGHT HOLD ON TO THIS RIG WHEN I DO RETURN TO LAKE GEORGE. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO FISH THE BEDDING BASS IN THE SHALLOW GRASS SHORE LINES.
AFTER THE REPAIRS THE DECAL ON THE FRONT DECK HAS SEEN ITS BETTER DAY. MAY I ORDER ONE TO REPLACE IT? ONCE AGAIN GREAT BOAT!
THANKS
ROWDY SMITH

| Tom,
I absolutely love the boat I don't have any complaints I have had it for two weeks and its been in the water all but 2 days. Me and 2 of my buddies are staying at devils elbow fish camp in St. Augustine. So far I have caught the biggest flounder and trout of my life. the boat does everything that you said it would i am amazed at how much water it drafts. I cant wait for school to start, I'm less than an hour away from the space coast and hopefully after I learn my way around I can put one of those monster reds in the boat. thanks again for making a great boat.
Benjie
I waited for some time to see the new 17' Mitzi Skiff before making a buying decision on a flats boat. After taking quite a test ride I went back to the dealer and purchased the skiff. I can not express how much I like the boat. I have owned quite a few skiffs and this one compares to anything I have had. The boat poles very shallow, runs fantastic and does not make a sound while poling - even into a chop, it's an awesome skiff. Mitzi Skiffs will have it's hands full filling orders for 17's. Thanks for all your help"

" My name is James Harrington I am a member of First Coast Fly Fishers. This past month I had the pleasure of joining the club on its annual outing to Titusville, Florida. My fishing partner for the day was Scott Sheridan, who swears Mitzi Skiff is the only boat he will ever own.
I must admit that I was impressed with the boat from the moment I got on board.
I was amazed at how the Mitzi got up on the plane with almost 450 lbs of people and gear. This was the first time that I had poled from a platform, the stability and balance of the craft was very impressive. I was expecting to tip and teeter with every movement, I felt very safe on the platform. I have to say the boat was light weight and easy to push. Unfortunately our day was windy and fishless, but I made a new friend and found the first boat I a going to buy.
I would like to congratulate you on an excellent craft, "My uncle can keep his Ranger!" I want a Mitzi!

" Being on the water on this coast fishing hard for 20 years I'm all to familiar with the compromises and have decided to own two boats to better serve my clients. I truly enjoy fishing a smaller skiff for reasons I'm sure you share, but haven't seen anything like your product except hells bay and that's out of my price range. I sincerely thank you for offering a boat like this at this price! I hope you are as well received by other anglers who can appreciate what your offering at this price!"

"I went fishing with Rob Womble about a little over a month ago in the Mitzi 15 footer (Panama City). I was impressed. We fished two on the casting deck - plenty of fishing room. The third guy polled. We had three reds in the cooler by nine o'clock, and boated six more by eleven. "

" Tom, did you design that boat? It is by far the most practical hull design for inshore I have seen to date!. To someone having fished almost everything, I can see you have implemented everything imaginable, or possible to eliminate the "If it only had this". Wow!, I have not been impressed in quite a while and the 2 hr. drive was not a disappointment. The flare, the chine's, the over hang all the way back!!! If I were to picture in my mind a flats boat that had the design that all of the others were missing to be complete it would be your skiff. I am going to purchase two boats my inshore skiff will be a Mitzi! Thanks for all your correspondence"

"Everything is working great! I was somewhat worried about how the Mitzi ST would handle chop. It rides better (and drier) than the 19' stratos cc that I had previously. "

First of all I'd like to compliment Mitzi skiffs for putting out a great product. My brother bought a Mitzi 16 w/ a Yamaha 60 from Central Florida Marine in Maitland ,fl. It is an awesome boat. It does everything you say it does and more. I'm in the process of starting my own guide service and was considering using a Mitzi as my platform. Does Mitzi Skiffs have a guide program ? Other manufactures have guide programs but Mitzi is the boat that will do what I want better than the others.
