FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to many of the common questions we receive about our skiffs.

Do the boats have any wood in them ?

No, there is no wood in any part our skiffs - see our construction page.

What motors do the boats come with ?

It depends what dealer you go to. You can get any make you prefer depending on the dealer.

Can I purchase the boat without a motor ?

Yes you can.

Can I buy my boat unrigged ?

All of our skiffs come with standard rigging as listed below and in our catalog.

What is standard on the boat ?

Poling platform/ tower, center console navigation lights, SS cleats, Teleflex steering, rod holders, flyrod tubes, push pole holders (hooks), bilge pump, wiring, switches, fused panel, compass.

How does the 17 do in a chop ?

The 17 handles chop beautifully. Please read the letter on our testimonials page by Captain John Kumiski. We regularly run these boats in 1+ feet of chop. Although it depends on the wind conditions, you can run over a 1' chop with no effort, all the while staying very dry.

What is the difference between the draft of the boats ?

All of our boats will pole in 7" of water, depending on engine installed and load of anglers. We go as shallow as 6" on soft bottoms with little effort.

Are the boats easy to pole ?

Mitzi Skiffs are very easy to pole, much easier than heavier boats in their size range. They are in fact one of the best poling skiffs around, ask anyone who has poled one.

Can I install a trolling motor on the bow ?

Yes, people do it all the time -both bow mount, and stern using different brands of trolling motors and mounting styles.

What is the difference between the 16 & ST ?

The 16 and ST are essentially the same boat, one has a tunnel (ST) the other does not. This allows the ST to run shallower than the 16.

How shallow will the ST run ?

We have seen these boats rigged to run as shallow as 4-5" of water. See our testimonials page.

Do the boats need trim tabs ?

No, none of our boats need tabs. The hulls, being as light as they are can benefit from them, especially when you have heavy loads, engines, etc... So you don't NEED them, but they can help add some performance.

Do the boats need a jack plate ?

No, not at all. The tunnel version of the 17 does need a jackplate though for proper motor height.

Do you have a guide program ?

Yes we do. Please contact us at the factory to discuss it with us.

How fast will the boats go ?

Anywhere from 28 MPH to 45+ depending on make, and power.

Do the boats have livewells ?

Yes, we have release well, and livewell options on our all of our skiffs. All of our well options are flow through, and not re-circulationg so your bait and fish are constantly flushed with fresh water, instead of simply re-circulating with aireated water to keep them very hardy all day long.

What options do you have for your flats boats ?

We have about any option you can dream about. Simply call us, or ask your local dealer. You can also look at our catalog as it has a list of options, and we have others besides the ones listed.

What hull colors are available ?

Choose from : white, baby blue, seafoam green, keylime green, canary yellow. You can also get custom colors, just ask your dealer.

Can I put bass fishing seats on my flats boat ?

Yes you can. Quite a few people use the boats as dual purpose boats.

Can you install a lift kit ?

Yes we do it all the time.

Do you offer side consoles - the small gunnel mounted type ?

Yes we do. We have both the side consoles and center console. The side console comes standard with Hydraulic steering.

Can I get a tour of the plant where you make Mitzi Skiffs ?

Yes you can, just call us to set an appointment.

Can I purchase direct from the factory ?

No. We sell through dealers - see our dealer page or call / email us.
